In October 2022, Safaricom Ethiopia switched on its network and services in Addis Ababa and announced a national launch ceremony. Safaricom Ethiopia SIM cards cost 30 birr and come with a welcome offer. The free offer that comes with the SIM includes 700 MB of data, 70 minutes of voice, and 70 SMS for customers to test and experience the network for one month.

Safaricom Ethiopia is charging subscribers 0.50 birr per minute for calls. One MB of data costs 0.10 birr. Meanwhile, SMS is charged at 0.12 birr per text.

With Safaricom SIM Cards, customers get 4G data and can make calls and texts between services between Safaricom Ethiopia and Ethio Telecom numbers.

Safaricom prices in Ethiopia are almost the same as Ethio Telecom’s prices, except for data. Ethio Telecom charges data usage 0.20 birr per MB, which is twice as Safaricom Ethiopia’s.

In addition, when customers buy SIM cards, they can choose their preferred numbers, buy airtime, and access dedicated customer support at the branded shops in Addis Ababa and 11 other cities. The national network rollout will continue to reach 14 additional cities by April 2023.

Safaricom Ethiopia Wifi Prices
