The Ministry of Innovation & Technology (MinT) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are inviting Ethiopian tech startups to participate in one of the continent’s largest all-inclusive tech events, GITEX Africa 2023.
Startups specializing in agritech, digital and ICT, tourism, manufacturing, and mining are encouraged to apply for the chance to participate in the event which will be held in Marrakech, the fourth-largest city in Morocco.
Scheduled to take place from May 31 to June 3, 2023, GITEX Africa aims to bring together tech titans, governments, SMEs, start-ups, coders, investors, and academia from over 95 countries to accelerate, collaborate, and explore new ventures.
The event will feature 125+ government delegations, 20,000+ trade buyers, 500+ exhibitors, 250+ speakers, and 400+ startups, providing a platform for participants to discuss and challenge new ideas, showcase new products, and identify future opportunities.
Eight elected Ethiopia startups will go to Morocco and get dedicated promotional space at the GITEX conference named “startup pod,” where they can advertise their businesses on the spot. In addition, the eight startups will be able to match with investors and companies, create connections with startup stakeholders, and participate in the GITEX award event in Ethiopia.
JICA will cover all costs of participation in GITEX, such as flight fees, visa fees, and marketing pods.
Basic requirements for registration include being a legally registered entity for at least one year but not more than seven years, having a tech-based product or service, and being a post-revenue business with at least six months of sustained revenue. Further eligibility criteria can be found in the application form.
This initiative follows the successful participation of eight startups in GITEX Global (Dubai) in October 2022. Since 2020, JICA, the development wing of the government of Japan, has been promoting Ethiopian startups through its NINJA (Next Innovation with Japan) project.
Eligible startups have until April 5, 2023, to apply for this unique opportunity. For more information and inquiries, contact +251934824675 or +251920719936, or visit the event’s Facebook page.
